Our Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision program provides advanced training and academic orientation for practicing counselors to become expert clinicians, counselor educators in teaching, supervisors and trainers of the new generation of counselors, researchers and scholars, as well as leaders and advocates in the field of counseling.
Our program is designed to develop students’ expertise and excellence in teaching, research, leadership and advocacy, advanced counseling, and supervision. To support the mission of Adler University, through the integration of reflective, experiential and participant learning and social engagement, our students are expected to become professionals who are also critical thinkers and courageous leaders, multiculturally competent, aware of self and the needs of others. Our students are encouraged to become practitioners who are ethically and socially conscious and responsible in all settings of their professional involvements.
Current practicing counselors, and mental health professionals who are degree holders in counseling, or related field are encouraged to apply. In order to accommodate different life and work demands, classes are mostly offered evenings and in weekend blended formats.
Employment opportunities for graduates include teaching positions in counseling related programs in university settings, supervisors and administrators in a wide range of settings such as community agencies, schools, mental health counseling centers, employee assistance programs, and private practices.
We emphasize socially responsible practice so that our graduates are prepared to be educators, leaders, researchers and practitioners in both clinical and culturally diverse settings. Our curriculum includes advanced coursework in teaching, supervision, multicultural counseling and advocacy, advanced theories and practices in counseling.
To ensure our students gain practical, hands-on knowledge within counselor education and supervision, they will complete an advanced clinical practicum, and internship in supervision, teaching, research, and other experiences which enhance their professional portfolios.
Our faculty are scholar-practitioners and active leaders in professional organizations and advocates in the field. They will serve as supervisors and mentors to guide students’ academic and professional development throughout the program.
