Three Canadian Universities Rank in the Top 20

Three Canadian universities rank in the top 20 of Parchment’s student choice college ranking for 2016.  This college ranking is based on which institutions students pick when they have been accepted to more than one institution.  Parchment is an organization that processes education credentials for students.

It doesn’t come to much of a surprise that the top five choices are the likes of Stanford (#1), MIT (#2), Harvey Mudd (#3), Duke (#4) and Yale (#5).

However three Canadian universities cracked the list:  University of Waterloo in the number 10 spot, followed by University of Toronto in 16th spot and McGill University in the 20th spot.

Waterloo has long been a sweetheart to the high tech community if you talk to anyone in Silicon Valley.  One of the hallmarks of Waterloo is its internationally renowned co-op education program, which is the largest in the world, with almost half of its 30,000 students alternating between four-month periods on campus and in the workplace.

The University of Toronto with its more than 47,000 students came in at the 16th spot.  However, anyone who understands the quality of education in Canada, also recognizes that in 2014, it was ranked 14th in the world by the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Global Universities Ranking, while the Times Higher Education World University Rankings of 2015 ranks the University of Toronto in 20th place, globally.  U of T has a long and distinguished history and is internationally known as the birthplace of insulin and stem cell research.

With a little over 30,000 students, McGill University is considered one of the most prestigious universities in the world.  Internationally, McGill ranked 24th in the world and 1st in Canada in the 2015 QS World University Rankings, which for the last 12 years in a row, QS has ranked McGill in the top 25 of the world’s universities.
