Seneca College and Siemens Canada Open First Mechatronics Simulation and Demonstration Centre in Ontario

Joint Venture Offers Seneca College Students Training and Certification in Mechatronics

Ontario's first Mechatronics Simulation and Demonstration Centre (MSDC) opened at Seneca College on February 12th, 2016 taking a step forward in addressing the technical skills gap.

In February 2015, Seneca and Siemens Canada signed a memo of understanding that focused on program development, research and training in the field of Mechatronics. With $651,000 in funding from the Ontario Government, Seneca was able to transform a lab facility and invest in state-of-the art equipment to serve as the training ground for students to pursue the Siemens Mechatronics Systems certification program.

Mechatronics is a design process, combining mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer technologies as well as control and systems theory into a single system to create more functional and adaptable products.

Siemens is the only global industrial company that offers the internationally recognized Mechatronics certification program in partnership with colleges and universities throughout North America, Asia and Africa. By delivering the Siemens Mechatronics Systems Certification Program through the Siemens Canada Engineering and Technology Academy in Canada, Seneca College is one of the first Canadian colleges to join the network of advanced technology partners in education and industry.
