A Police Foundations program qualifies graduates to pursue positions with Police Services, By-Law Enforcement, Campus Police, Insurance Investigation and Court Services.
Police Foundations Program Overview
The Police Foundations program enables students to prepare for careers in entry-level policing and related law enforcement jurisdictions and combines practical, theoretical and substantive knowledge that is relevant to police related work settings.
Students participate in physical activity throughout select courses with gym memberships provided to students to help prepare for the physical training required in this field.

- Canadian Charter and Criminal Code
- Crisis Intervention and Conflict Management
- Criminal Investigations, Forensics and Evidence
- Criminal Justice in Canada
- Community Policing
- St. John Ambulance Enhanced First Aid with Level C CPR
- Courtroom Procedures and Testimony
- Criminology for Police Foundations
- Interrogation and Interviewing Skills
- Psychology and Mental Health
- National Security
- Provincial Statutes/Offences
- Police Powers and Authority
- Professionalism and Ethics
- Youth and the Criminal Justice System
- Field Placement
Restricted and unrestricted firearms safety training is also offered to students at no additional cost. Students are encouraged to attend the optional firearms safety-training course as many private sector employers require this for employment.

What is remote learning?
Many Eastern College students are pursuing a new career by continuing their education through remote learning.* Instructors at Eastern College provide lessons; assign homework; and facilitate group discussions, presentations, and other classroom activities through video conferencing and other remote channels. The main goal is to ensure students receive the education needed to graduate into their new careers while delivering a learning option that gives you additional flexibility and convenience.
What does remote learning look like?
- instructor-led classes
- follow the same schedule with classes held at the same time
- class discussions and debates continue through video
- same in-class content is reviewed (i.e. presentations, case studies)
- one-on-one student check-ins with instructors
- learn new communication skills and technology such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams to better prepare you for future work situations
- it is not online learning, you are guided through the learning with your instructor and classmates
*Not all programs are available by remote learning.
