Medical Lab Assistant Program Information

Robertson College’s Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Diploma program curriculum is aligned with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) competencies and offers a hands-on approach to teaching that equips students with real-world experience and the skills they need to be successful in this field.

This program is also affiliated with the Department of Human Anatomy & Cell Science and the Department of Microbiology at the University of Manitoba. This enables you to receive further training in the specialized areas of Histology, Cytology, and Microbiology using the university's state of the art labs.

Robertson’s state-of-the-art medical lab, small classes and experienced instructors provide a learning environment where students can master the course material. 

Medical Lab Assistant courses include:

• Learning to collect and prepare specimen samples
• Learning how to use the lab equipment
• Conducting simple lab tests
• Handling specimens appropriately
• Sterilizing lab equipment
• At the end of the medical laboratory assistant program, students participate in a practicum where students gain valuable work experience before transitioning to their new career.

Accreditation

The Medical Lab Assistant program is accredited and graduates are eligible to write the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Medical Laboratory Assistant certification exam.
