Medical Assistant

A medical assistant works in a physician's office, primary care facility, clinic or other outpatient facility. Duties vary depending on place of employment, however they usually include administrative tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, registering patients, and billing / insurance and could also include clinical tasks such as drawing blood, taking vital signs, performing injections and EKGs, and assisting the physician with in-office procedures.

Medical Assisting is a Credentialed Occupation

Students who graduate from an accredited program may seek the credential of Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA). Students are scheduled to take a credentialing exam during their final academic term of enrollment. This credential shows employers that you have met the high standards of preparation in the field of medical assisting.
