Health Care Assistant

T he Health Care Assistant (HCA) program at Vancouver Career College provides the specialized training needed to work as an intermediate or extended caregiver working with elderly or disabled patients.

Health Care Assistant Program Info

The HCA program teaches you fundamental medical knowledge such as medical terminology, physiology and chronic conditions. You will also learn to monitor patient health, keep patient records, and create a support network for a special needs patient.

You will also be required to complete two clinical care supervised practicum placements that enable you to put your skills into practice.

Certifications

In addition to a Health Care Assistant diploma, you also receive the following certifications:

• Food Safe Level 1
• CPR “C” with AED
• WHMIS
• Standard First Aid
• Assisting with Medication in Assisted Living
• Student Practice Education Core Orientation
• Workplace Violence Prevention

This Health Care Assistant program has been granted a full, five-year recognition status by the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry. Upon graduation from the Health Care Assistant program, you will be eligible for registration with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
