The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has officially acknowledged Eastern College's ECE program as equivalent to a two-year Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) diploma program at Eastern College in New Brunswick equips you with skills and knowledge in child development through mental, physical, social, and emotional fostering. Through a hands-on approach you will learn to nurture a child’s growth as well as how to develop program and curriculum that supports and promotes positive childhood development.
The ECE program provides you with the foundations needed for this discipline, from the role and responsibilities of an educator to the applicable legislative and curricular frameworks needed in early learning settings.
You will learn the different fundamentals of child development, the psychology of early learning, and the proper manner of teaching various subjects to young children such as math, science, music, health, and literature. You will also be able to increase your competency with special topics related to observation and assessment of children’s learning, child abuse prevention and intervention, building family-centered partnerships, and dealing with exceptional children.
This program includes New Brunswick-specific courses to satisfy details of the provincial framework giving graduates the skills to attain meaningful careers in early childhood education and make positive differences in the lives of children in their communities.

Many Eastern College students are pursuing a new career by continuing their education through remote learning.* Instructors at Eastern College provide lessons; assign homework; and facilitate group discussions, presentations, and other classroom activities through video conferencing and other remote channels. The main goal is to ensure students receive the education needed to graduate into their new careers while delivering a learning option that gives you additional flexibility and convenience.
