Certificate Information
Expanding on Sprott Shaw’s Early Childhood Education – Basic program, the Post Basic with Exceptionalities Certificate program provides specialization for those who wish to work with special needs children.
This certificate program consists of in class as well as practicum training, where students will learn:
- About special education and supported health care
- About neurological disabilities, special health care needs, severe and multiple disabilities, pervasive disorders and visual and hearing impairments
- To plan accessible and inclusive indoor and outdoor play
- To develop positive approaches for guiding, caring and interacting with children with challenging behaviors
- How to observe, monitor and record each child’s developmental progress
- To plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs and activities
- Use specialized equipment and materials as needed
