NAIT launches new Bachelor of Technology in Construction Management Degree Program
Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) has launched Alberta’s first Bachelor of Technology in Construction Management degree program.
The degree is one of only a handful of similar programs in Canada, with a two-plus-two format where a two-year diploma is followed by a two-year degree. The degree program will also be of interest to students who have completed a two-year diploma in a related area such as Construction Engineering Technology where now they could earn a degree with an additional two years of study. NAIT is also planning a pathway for certified trades people.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Technology in Construction Management program will be prepared for leadership roles in the heavy industrial, commercial, engineering and construction industries. According to Dr. Faisal Arain, associate dean, School of Sustainable Building and Environmental Management the program fills the void construction companies have long identified in Alberta and across the country. Industry has been waiting for this degree for some time. There is already a shortage of professionals in project management, which will worsen as more people retire from industry in the coming years.”
