T he Addictions and Community Services Worker program at Vancouver Career College teaches you how to support people in your community as they work to kick their drug and alcohol addictions.
This program combines theoretical and practical skills with courses that focus on psychology; the fundamentals of addiction; the physical effects of substance abuse; and relapse prevention.
You will also learn about group facilitation and techniques for working with families. In addition to addictions support, the program also teaches additional community support techniques, such as dealing with family violence and special needs patients.
Upon graduating, you will be eligible to work in settings such as social service agencies, correctional institutes, community mental health centres and drug and alcohol treatment facilities.
