The Veterinary Assistant program prepares students to provide a large number of clinical and administrative services to a variety of animal care facilities. A veterinary assistant’s role combines the duties of an animal health technician and a veterinary office assistant.

Veterinary Assistant Courses include:

  • Veterinary Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology
  • Pathology practiced in veterinary medicine
  • Learning some of the causes of illness and disease in animals, the clinical signs and treatment and prevention
  • Health and Safety practices in an environment that provides animal care services
  • Animal nursing care and emergency protocols
  • Documenting an animal’s medical history, and taking and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse and respiration
  • Conducting examinations and assessing pain
  • Caring for hospitalized animals
  • Handling and dispensing of pharmaceutical products
  • Surgical Preparation and Assisting
  • Veterinary office and billing procedures

Upon completion of in class courses, you will complete a practicum in a veterinary environment to solidify their skills and competencies.
