Business Programs

Business Office Administration

SJVC’s Business Office Administration Certificate or Associate Degree programs teach office procedures and skills that include courses in essential business concepts, business accounting fundamentals, the basic elements of marketing, human resources, business communication and social media. Students have the option of taking the Business Office Administration courses at any of the California campuses or online.

Human Resources Administration - Online

The HR Administration Certificate and Associate of Science Degree programs are available online and offers training in procedures, policies and practices as well as understanding the laws affecting payroll and employee records. Students also learn how to perform payroll calculations and how to use human resource information systems.

Criminal Justice Programs

Criminal Justice: Corrections Resources Administration - Online

SJVC’s Criminal Justice: Corrections Associate of Science Degree program includes coursework and training in criminal law, evidence collection and preservation, report writing, criminal procedures and physical agility. Students will learn:

  • Arrest/control techniques
  • Firearms use
  • CPR/First Aid
  • Weaponless defense tactics
  • Courtroom Procedures

Dental Programs

Dental Assistant

Students in SJVC’s Dental Assistant Certificate program learn how to assist a dentist and receive training in patient care and office and laboratory duties both in a classroom as well as through hands-on demonstrations. Students learn about dental anatomy and radiology, coronal polishing, how to use dental office software as well as dental practice management.

Medical Programs

Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Earn an Associate of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography at SJVC. Graduates are trained to perform ultrasound scanning examinations and document the data for a physician. You will learn:

  • Fundamentals and professional aspects of sonography
  • Principles and instrumentation of ultrasound
  • Abdominal ultrasound imaging
  • Obstetrics, gynecology and vascular imaging

Medical Assistant

The Clinical Medical Assisting and Clinical and Administrative Medical Assisting programs are available as an Associate of Science Degree or as a Certificate and are offered online as well as at California campuses.

In SJVC’s Clinical Medical Assisting program, you will be introduced to the core skills and competencies needed to work as a medical assistant in California. Some of the skills you will acquire as a Clinical Medical Assistant include:

  • How to draw blood/venipuncture
  • How to maintain patient records
  • How to prepare patients for exams

In the Clinical and Administrative Medical Assisting program, you will receive the same back-office training as those in the Clinical Medical Assisting program as well as front-office training to be able to perform administrative duties such as patient charting, billing, correspondence, and billing and coding procedures for insurance purposes using applicable software.

Medical Billing & Coding - Online

Learn career-specific skills to work in the administrative side of healthcare. Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:

  • Be able to assign medical codes across a wide range of medical services
  • Prepare and submit claims with accurately assigned codes
  • Be able to accurately review, document, and maintain patient financial records
  • Effectively communicate with other medical professionals using correct medical and insurance terminology
  • Assist with patient registration and intake
  • Provide CPR (BLS-HCP) and First Aid

Pharmacy Technology

SJVC’s Pharmacy Technology and Pharmacy Technician programs are offered as both a Certificate as well as an Associate of Science degree. You will have the training to work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and will learn:

  • Pharmacy law and ethics
  • Computer data entry
  • Pharmacy science & clinical applications
  • Prescription processing

Respiratory Therapy, Bachelor of Science - Online

If you are a Registered Respiratory Therapist looking to advance, the online Bachelor of Science Degree in Respiratory Therapy (BSRT) can provide the education needed to help you move forward.

Surgical Technology

Our Surgical Technology program teaches the theory and application of sterile techniques. Courses and instruction include an extensive clinical rotation to give you hands-on experience in a surgical environment. Upon graduation you will earn an Associate of Science Degree, CPR, HIPAA, and Blood Borne Pathogens certifications and will be eligible to sit for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) National Certification Exam.

  • Proper assembly of surgical instruments and equipment
  • How to create and maintain a sterile field
  • Correct handling and care of specimens
  • Techniques for providing pre-, intra- and post-operative care
  • How to anticipate surgeon's needs during operation

Veterinary Assistant

SJVC’s Veterinary Technology Certificate program gives you the skills needed to help animals when they need it most. Comprehensive training includes all areas of animal patient care, from lab tests to radiology procedures to surgical assisting. The curriculum also covers communication skills involving pet owner education and counseling for the care of sick animals. You will also participate in an externship to give you real-world experience.

Trade and Industrial Programs

Aviation Maintenance Technology

The Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) program prepares you with the skills and technical knowledge you need to be able to work on aircraft airframe (body) and powerplant (engine) and focuses on preparing you for certification as an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic.

Certifications Earned

  • Graduates earn an Associate of Science degree and are prepared to test for an Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Program Accreditation

  • San Joaquin Valley College’s Aviation Maintenance Technology program is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Construction Management

The Associate of Science Degree in Construction Management program teaches the managerial and technical skills needed in the residential and commercial construction industry. Courses include scheduling and controlling and estimating and bidding and is available at some campuses as well as online.

Electrical Technology

Upon completion of SJVC’s Electrical Technology program, you will have the equivalent of a four-year experienced electrician in technical understanding, troubleshooting, electrical terminology, and math, which helps you prepare for the California General Electrician’s Certification exam. You will learn:

  • Electrical conduit bending
  • Electric circuitry and residential, commercial, and industrial wiring
  • Electrical blueprint reading
  • OSHA Standards for the construction industry
  • PLC and motor controls

Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration

Students in the HVAC program will learn heating and cooling principles, electrical theories, how to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and proper installation, service and replacement techniques. Graduates also have the opportunity to earn Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 certification.

Industrial Maintenance Technology

SJVC’s Industrial Maintenance Technology (IMT) program is designed to provide hands-on training in industrial systems and equipment. You will learn the basic principles, applications, concepts and functions of hydraulic systems, bearing and seal types, and power transmission components. You have the option to earn either a Certificate of Completion or an Associate of Science Degree.

Information Technology

Information Technology Associate Degree or Certificate - Online

The online Information Technology program can help you obtain a position as a network administrator, computer support specialist, information security analyst, and many other entry-level IT jobs.

SJVC offers 20-week, 25-week and 30-week Certificate options depending on how many CompTIA certifications you wish to achieve.

Associate Degree in Information Technology

For those who wish to earn an Associate Degree can complete a 60-week program.
