The accounting and bookkeeping field offers well-paid positions with future employment prospects projected to be “above average”.  People who have taken bookkeeping courses are better prepared to compete for jobs and with additional experience or training, progression to more senior positions is possible.

Diploma Information

The Business Administration Bookkeeping program will give you the knowledge and skills to perform full cycle accounting and bookkeeping for small or medium sized companies under the direction of a designated accountant.

The bookkeeping courses at Sprott Shaw College will teach you how to:

  • Record accounting transactions accurately
  • Reconcile General Ledger (GL) accounts
  • Reconcile bank accounts with bank statements
  • Create budgets
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements
  • Analyze costs and Return On Investment (ROI)
  • Use accounting software applications
  • Record payroll transactions and submit statutory government remittances
  • Calculate payroll
  • Prepare simple income tax returns
  • Perform basic human resource functions such as analyzing job descriptions, recruitment and training
  • Use MS Office including Word, Excel and Access
  • Communicate effectively in business
