Students in the Dental Assisting program are offered extensive training which will enable them to develop the skills needed to perform a variety of dental office procedures and laboratory techniques as well as the knowledge associated with medical and dental terminology, anatomy & physiology, with an emphasis placed on head and neck anatomy, dental law and ethics.
In American Institute’s Massage Therapy Program, students have the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of Anatomy / Physiology and Pathology which is critical in determining when massage therapy is appropriate. Students also have the opportunity to develop basic Swedish Massage techniques and gain exposure to entire range of specialized modalities that range from therapeutic deep tissue techniques to light touch relaxation techniques.
Students may be eligible to sit for certification/licensure exams offered by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork or the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards.
The Medical Assisting program covers the basic knowledge and skills including foundational courses in Anatomy and Physiology and Medical Terminology. The Medical Assisting program is offered in both Diploma and Associate Degree formats (programs vary by location). Medical Assisting coursework includes clinical procedures such as phlebotomy, EKG and lab procedures and in administrative areas such as computers and medical office procedures.
Students in the Medical Coding and Billing program may learn extensive medical vocabulary and understand medical terminology, develop the ability to use the main diagnostic (ICD) and procedure (CPT) coding systems correctly to identify and code diagnostic components, and accurately process the various insurance claims and third-party reimbursements.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography (Ultrasound) program at American Insitute is designed for those who wish to pursue a career as an ultrasound technologist.
This program combines online theory classes with hands-on lab work and includes vascular training as well as muscular skeletal exposure and prepares students to sit for the Abdomen (AB) and/or Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN) specialty examinations through the ARDMS.
During the final term, students may be eligible to sit for the SPI exam (Sonography Principles and Instrumentation) which is half of the ARDMS exam. Upon graduation, students may be eligible to sit for the specialty ARDMS exam of their choice.
Students in the nurse’s Aide program have the opportunity to learn to take and record vital signs, and assist patients with daily activity and recovery needs, and prepare to take the Connecticut Nurse’s Aide State Exam. (This exam is offered on campus at American Institute ).
This program is offered in day, evening, and weekend schedules, allowing you the flexibility you need to manage your current work/life demands while you train for your new career as a Nurse’s Aide.
